This walk leaving from Tor View Shepherds Huts offers an opportunity to discover the variation of the Somerset landscape. Best of all it leaves right from your hut’s doorstep, starting with a march across the fields towards Glastonbury Tor. You’ll follow the edge of the field towards a road. Turn left then almost immediately take the left fork. It’s easy going down this quiet country lane and you’ll stay on this for a couple kilometres. Just after a solar farm, you’ll see a footpath sign on your left where you will turn.
This takes you across farm fields with great views across the valley. You’ll eventually descend into Croscombe, a quiet little village with a shop and a pub (The George Inn) should you fancy any refreshment (check they are open before you begin your walk, and take a bag to carry any purchases). You’ll head east through the village to Ham Woods to take the path through the wood for about 2km (1.2 miles). The wood is wonderfully wild and peaceful, definitely a highlight of the walk. You’ll ascent out of the wood on the East Mendip Way.
From there it’s easy walking across fields back to Tor View. There is also a bus stop by The George Inn from where you can catch a bus to Shepton Mallet or Wells. – Bus Services 161 & 174
